Ashton v Glossop 12 October
Ashton 30 – 10 Glossop
In their first fully competitive match of the season the Under 9s lost a bruising encounter with their local rivals by 6 tries to 2. All even (10-10) at half time Ashton changed their tactics at the breakdown and kept hold of the ball for long periods. Ashton singled out Joshua Sexton-Jones (Little Josh) as our best player mainly for never giving up after being constantly jumped on by much bigger boys! The whole Glossop team never gave up and fought to the end. Special mention goes to Asa who never stopped running and tackling all day and to Josh Done and Calvin who both took on the entire opposite team on their own.
Glossop v Marple 19 October
Glossop 25 – 15 Marple
First home tie and our first win. Marple had 16 players to choose from (virtually all wearing scrum caps for some reason!!) but Glossop ran out winners, 5 tries to 3 despite a strong come back from Marple and some tough refereeing decisions in the second half. All of the Glossop team played controlled, passing rugby. It was like watching Scotland. And the tackling!! 2 players stood out, Joe Brotherton for a head-on try saver in the last minute and Natasha for wrestling Marple's biggest player to the ground. In attack, Thomas played a blinder at scrum half and as usual, Joe and Will never stopped running.
Thanks to Alastair for the reports
